Museum site progress

In 2015, the Cecil County Farm Museum entered into a 99 year lease with Cecil County Public Schools to occupy the old Gates (Broadlands) farm located at 912 Appleton Road in Elkton. Since that time, the museum volunteers have been hard at work renovating the farm. Many of the buildings on the farm which functioned as residences and office space are in the process of being demolished due to their decrepit condition. The farm has not been occupied since 1988 and time has not been kind to the cedar shake roofs on many of the buildings.

In the fall of 2015, the museum hired contractors to replace the roof and put siding on the barn to stabilize it. This work should be completed by May of 2016. The cow feeding and milking area in the ground floor is being jackhammered and removed to replace it with a solid smooth concrete floor. CCFM has received several State and Local grants to assist us with the renovations and we are in the process of securing additional funding and or donations to help us with this endeavor.

The main house and attached "bachelor" residense will be preserved with the addition of new roofing and siding. From there, the interior will be renovated with new drywall and cielings. The interior of these structures are in surprisingly good condition but will need some TLC to make them useable.

Check back from time to time to see additional photos of the progress as they bacome available.
